“ To Explore the Potential of Neurosteroids for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Neurodegenerative Diseases “ presented by Prof. Tsung-I Hsu

Abstract:

Neurosteroids are neuroactive steroid hormones which are synthesized in the brain, and are important for maintaining brain health through regulating neuronal activity and astrocyte integrity. Based on steroidomic metabolomics, neurosteroid alteration in the brain is involved in the development of neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, neurosteroids will become qualified biomarkers for monitoring brain health and are worth developing for the treatment of brain diseases. Until now, there are still no strategies to attenuate neuronal pathogenesis-caused behavioral abnormalities in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We attempt to provide new clues in diagnosing and treating AD and ALS patients.
